The ministry of education states that all national schools will be reopened on the 3rd of September in the event that the marking of the advanced level papers get delayed.
Speaking to our news team Secretary of the ministry Gotabhaya Jayaratne stated this situation could arise if the university lecturers refrain from taking part in the marking of the advanced level papers.
In general there is a delay in the start of the 3rd term of schools which are used as marking centres.
The department of examinations had planned to utilize 53 schools as marking centres.
However the Secretary of the ministry stated that if the paper marking cannot be accomplished by the scheduled date, all the schools in the island will be opened for the 3rd term on the 3rd of September.
Professors of the Colombo Medical Faculty have engaged in a token strike since this morning to show support to the ongoing strike of the university lecturers.
Chairman of the Colombo University Medical Faculty Lecturers' Association Dr. Asela Mendis expressed his views further.
In addition the University Non Academic Staff employees are preparing to enter into a trade union action once again stating that the authorities have not provided solutions to their salary discrepancies as promised.
Joint President of the Inter-University Trade Union Federation R. M. Chandrapala stated that all university non academic staff trade unions will convene on the 30th of this month to take a final decision regarding this.
