President Mahinda Rajapaksa will lead a delegation to the 16th Non-Aligned Movement summit currently being held in the Iranian capital of Teheran from August 26th to 31st.
The President and the Sri Lankan delegation including External Affairs Minister Professor G.L. Peiris will attend the summit on Thursday and Friday.
The heads of state and governments of the 120-member organization are to meet on August 30th and 31st to discuss nuclear disarmament, human rights and regional issues at the summit.
The foreign ministers conference will be held today and tomorrow.
The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon will also attend the summit defying the requests by the United States and Israel asking him not to attend the NAM summit in Teheran.
A meeting is expected to take place between President Mahinda Rajapakse and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the side lines of the NAM summit.
