Chilaw District Court considering the plaint filed by Chilaw Police issued an order today preventing all kinds of protests, demonstrations or Sathyagraha's being held adjacent to the Munneswaram Kovil in Chilaw until 2nd September.

A public protest march including a large number of Buddhist priests was held last Sunday, objecting the animal sacrifice ritual at Annual Feast of Sri Bhadrakali Amman Kovil in Chilaw which later transpired into a tense situation in the area.

However, Minister Mrvyn Silva who is against the animal slaughtering ritual had recently vowed to stop animal sacrifice taking place in the Kovil & said that he would launch a sitting campaign opposite the Kovil on the day of Annual Feast.

The animal sacrifice ritual and the feast of the Kovil is to take place on 01st September.
