The Elections Secretariat states that the casting of postal votes which took place yesterday and today occurred incident free.

Additional Elections Secretariat R.M.A.L. Rathnayeke speaking to our news team noted that state servants who were unable to cast their postal votes during the course of yesterday & today are able to cast their postal votes at the respective District Election Commissioners Offices on the 6th of September.

Meanwhile the United National Party states that a situation has arisen where the Additional Elections Commissioner of Ampara is unable to carryout his duties.

UNP National Organiser Daya Gamage speaking in this regard added that The Ampara Mayor had threatened the Additional Elections Commissioner of Ampara.

Indika Nalin Jayawickrama.

Jayawickrama speaking to our news team denied the allegations terming them as baseless.

When inquired by Ampara District Additional Elections Commissioner S.Achchudan in this regard he had this to say.

Meanwhile Additional Elections Commissioner R.M.A.L. Rathnayeke

commenting on the incident stated that he had not received any complaint from the Additional Elections Commissioner of Ampara which went onto say that he had been hindered from executing his duties.
