The cabinet has granted approval to consider the university academic staff as a special profession.
Speaking at the cabinet decisions press briefing, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Keheliya Rambukwella stated that the cabinet has granted approval for 8 proposals with regards to this.
The minister further stated that the government believes that this will pave way to a solution to the trade union action taken by the university lecturers.
Our news team spoke with the media spokesperson of FUTA Terrance Madujith regarding the cabinet approval.
He stated that FUTA would need to check the cabinet paper to see if a solution to the salary issues has been granted and he further stated that a discussion with the Secretary to the ministry of finance would be required in the future as well.
