The Ceylon Electricity Board states that there will be no power cuts today and on Sunday in view of the extended weekend and the Binara Poya day which is marked today.
A power cut of 3 hours and 20 minutes is currently being implemented due to
repairs being carried out at the Lak Wijaya Coal power plant in Norochcholai.
However power cuts will be implemented islandwide tomorrow as well.
According to the Deputy Chairman of the CEB Anura Wijepala reparation work of the Norochcholai power plant is scheduled to be finalised by Monday.
He also stated that despite the rain fall being experienced in catchment areas the water levels therein are insufficient for power generation.
Water levels in catchment areas have risen from a total of 18% to 20.
The Deputy Chairman of the CEB noted that if power generation at the Norochcholai coal power plant resumes, a decision regarding a halt or reduction in power cuts could be reached.
