Chairman of the Central Province Road Passenger Transport Authority A.J. Ranasinghe was arrested this morning while having attempted to allegedly obtain a sum of 150,000 rupees as a bribe for a route permit.
Ranasinghe had been arrested by officials attached to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption in Kandy.
A senior spokesperson of the unit speaking to our news team noted that the arrest had been made based on a tip received at the Colombo head quarters of the commission.
Subsequently Chairman of the Central Province Road Passenger Transport Authority A.J. Ranasinghe had been handed over to the Katugasthota police for further investigations.
Incidentally the suspect also serves as the SLFP's Maskeliya Electorate organiser.
