Senior DIG in Charge of Election duties Gamini Nawarathna states that

74 complaints relating to poll violations have been received by police.

According to police, the most number of complaints had been received from the Eastern province.

More than 50 arrests were made by police subsequent to the complaints which it had received.

Meanwhile the United National Party has lodged a complaint with the Elections Secretariat concerning interviews which were carried out at the Ministry of Culture and the Arts today.

In it's complain to the Elections Commissioner, the United National Party states that election laws were breached since candidates who were present at the venue represented electoral provinces.

These were the views expressed to our news team in this regard by UNP MP Dr. Jayalath Jayawardhana.

Meanwhile Secretary to the Ministry of Culture and the Arts Wasantha Ekanayeke noted that steps were taken to temporarily halt the interviews of candidates representing electoral provinces subsequent to the complaint lodged by UNP MP Dr. Jayalath Jayawardhana.

Moreover, When inquired from Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya, he noted that a complaint in this regard had been received at the elections secretariat which had been lodged by the Deputy General Secretary of the UNP Dr. Jayalath Jayawardhna.

Speaking further the Commissioner of elections noted that the Secretariat was acting on the complaint it had received.
