The Ceylon Petroleum Cooperation states that a multifarious compound named "mir-lite" would be added into Arabian Crude supplies in a bid to speed up the refining capacity of the Sapugaskanda refinery.
According to the Ministry of Petroleum 135,000 tonnes of Arabian lite crude have been imported to the country.
Earlier the Jathika Sewaka Sngamaya of the CPC charged that Arabian crude had slowed the refining process at the Sapugaskanda facility, where as the capacity of the plant would not have been hampered, had the variety of crude branded Iranian Lite been imported.
However issuing a release the Ministry of Petroleum stated that refining at the Sapugaskanda facility had been halted owing to another cause.
It noted that reparation work on a buoy of the Colombo Port had caused delays
in unloading of crude supplies.
