Lankan pilgrims to be flown back on special flight

The ministry of external affairs state that steps are underway to bring back the 184 Sri Lankans who were mobbed while taking part in a religious festival in the Thanjawur region in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to our news team the director general of public relations Sarath Dissanayaka stated that these pilgrims were mobbed by pro LTTE supporters.

Following the incident the ministry of external affairs issued a travel warning to all Sri Lankans visiting Tamil Nadu.

An increasing number of instances of intimidation of Sri Lankan nationals visiting Tamil Nadu have been reported in the recent past.

Our news team inquired from the Sri Lankan High Commissioner A. Rajakaruna regarding this and he stated that a special air craft will be deployed to bring back the Sri Lankan pilgrims to the island.
