The 184 Sri Lankans who had been attacked on their way back to the Trichi airport after a pilgrimage to the Thanjaavoor Church in the Tamil Nadu State have returned to Sri Lanka safely.

Our airport Reporter said that this group arrived in the island at 11.40 p.m. yesterday by a special Mihinlanka Airlines plane M. J. 302 A.

These pilgrims comprise a group of Catholic devotees resident in Chilaw.

After their return they were handed over to their relatives in special buses.

It is said that there were also several politicians of the area among these pilgrims.

This group which had gone on a pilgrimage to the Thanjaavoor Church in the Tamil Nadu State first met with opposition at the Church.

Later when they were being transported to the Trichi airport for repatriation to Sri Lanka on the mediation of the Sri Lankan High Commission office in Chennai a convoy of buses they were travelling in was attacked last afternoon.

Several pilgrims expressing their views on the tragic incident to our news team had this to say.
