The casting of Ballots for today's much anticipated provincial polls in the North Central, Sabaragamuwa & Eastern provinces commenced at 7 a.m. this morning.
25 political parties are in contention for today's polls along side 86 independent groups with a total of 3703 candidates vying for seats in all three provinces.
Meanwhile the total number of voters eligible to cast their ballots during today's polls stands at 3,336,415.
A total of 900,862 voters meanwhile have qualified to cast their votes in the North Central Province.
Voter turnout in the Polonnaruwa District is said to standing at 30 to 30%,
while voting activities in the Kegalle district is said to be taking place peacefully
under strict police security..
Moreover according to our provincial correspondent's voter turnout in the Rathnapura district is being recorded at 25%, with voters showing little interest in casting their ballots.
Voting is presently underway at 464 polling centres in the Digamadulla District
with voter turnout in the Trincomalee district being reported at 30%.
Casting of ballots in the Batticaloa district meanwhile is said to be attracting a low rate of voters.
