The winning Eastern Provincial Council SLMC candidates have been called to Colombo to discuss future actions to be taken in the Eastern Provincial Council.
An SLMC spokesman said that the seven Eastern Provincial Council SLMC winning representatives have been informed to participate in this discussion.
Government and TNA representatives held discussions with SLMC Leader Minister Rauff Hakeem yesterday to obtain the support of the SLMC.
The senior SLMC spokesman said that the Government and the TNA would be informed after its Eastern leaders hold discussions with the Supreme Council and the political Council.
Meanwhile the Ceylon Workers' Congress that contested solitarily at the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council has also decided to support the Government.
The CWC gained two councillor positions from the Sabaragamua Province at the election held on 8th of this month.
A senior UPFA spokesman said that the UPFA Chief Ministers elected for the Provincial Councils would be named this week.
The names of all candidates elected at the provincial council election this time are scheduled to be gazetted tomorrow.
The UPFA spokesman said that after the gazette notification the chief ministers and provincial council ministers would be appointed.
Meanwhile a subtle battle has cropped for the North Central Provincial Council Chief Minister post among the candidates who had received majority number of preferential votes at the election.
SM Ranjith of the UPFA who obtained the highest number of votes in the North Central Province stated that some of the candidates who were rejected by the public are still in anticipation of higher positions.
