Deposits of candidates who contested for the provincial council election representing independent groups have been confiscated.

1454 candidates representing 86 independent groups contested for the North Central, Eastern and Sabaragamuwa provincial council election.

The elections secretariat stated that all 86 candidates faced defeat during the election and deposits of over 3 million rupees were taken over to the government.

A Candidate representing an independent group must deposit 2000 rupees and majority of the groups contested for the Ampara district.
