UNP candidate Aruna Buddhika Gunasekara who was elected to the North Central province turned himself over to the police this morning accompanied by lawyers.
He has been charged with causing damage to the residence of the Mihintale Pradeshiya Sabha opposition leader Lalith Edirisinghe.
Following the incident the suspect Aruna Buddhika Gunasekara had fled the region and the Anuradhapura Magistrate's Court had ordered the police to arrest the suspect immediately and produce him before courts.
Following the attack on the Mihintale Opposition leader's house a clash had occurred between the two parties.
As a result of the clash, a supporter of Aruna Buddhika Gunasekara had been severely injured and was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Anuradhapura hospital where he had succumbed to his injuries.
According to police the deceased 41 year old hailing from the Eppawela – Kiri-amunakole region had been the driver of newly elected provincial councillor Aruna Buddhika Gunasekara.
