The Minister of Higher Education joined by university lecturers have converged on common grounds regarding the excess intake of students into universities.
A recently issued Supreme Court verdict decided that an additional 5,609 students should be enrolled into universities for the 2011-2012 academic years.
This was subsequent to considering the facts which were presented before court by the University Grants Commission.
Issuing its verdict the Supreme Court noted that cabinet approval should also be obtained in this regard.
Moreover university lecturers who are engaged in a 3 month long strike state that the required facilities for the additional intake are below the required standards.
