A senior Spokesperson for the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress states that there is a high probability of the government being aided by Congress to form power over in the Eastern provincial council.
He noted that although an official decision was yet to be reached; the SLMC would most probably align with the government where the East is concerned.
Discussions currently being convened in this regard are said to focus on the division of power.
The SLMC hopes to gain the Chief Ministerial post of the East along side two additional seats by aiding the government to establish power in the provincial council.
Congress has also proposed to the government that a seat should be allocated to a Sinhala national in the Northern provincial council.
Discussions between SLMC leader Rauff Hakeem & President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday is said to have focussed extensively on the division of power in the Eastern provincial council.
