The 52 migrants who were rescued by the Sri Lanka Navy after their vessel experienced a distress situation while attempting to illegally travel to Australia were brought to the Galle port this morning.
This group of individuals had left Chillaw on the 26th of July and their vessel had experienced a distress situation on the 23rd of August.
The Samudura vessel of the Sri Lanka Navy rescued the group on the 13th of September.
Among those rescued were 38 tamils, 9 sinhalese and 5 muslims.
4 out of them were in critical condition and have been provided medical attention, while the rest have been handed over to the CID for further investigations.
