Indian media reports that Leader of the DMK, M. Karunanidhi has stated that he or his party will not take part in any function or special event organized by the Indian Central Government.

The reports further state that M. Karunanidhi has taken this decision as he is not satisfied with the way the Indian Central Government is handling the issues relating to the Tamil Population in Sri Lanka.

However, it is also reported that M. Karunanidhi has stated that it is not a reason for his party to leave the congress.

Meanwhile India's leading political commentator Cho Ramaswamy said "some political parties in Tamilnadu were using the Sri lankan tamil's issue to gain the votes from peoples.

He said there are some fringe groups like the MDMK agitating against the Sri Lankan government and they do not even have any influence or standing in Tamil Nadu politics.

According to Cho, though Vaiko’s olitical party is more than a decade old, it is yet to cross the 2 per cent barrier in Tamil Nadu’s electoral politics.

In the meantime He said dreams of political entities like MDMK to set up an independent Tamil Eelam in Sri Lanka would always remain as a daydream.
