Following President Mahinda Rajapakse’s official visit to India, he met with  his Indian counterpart  Pranab Mukerjee at the Rashrapathi Bawan today in order to carry out discussions.

Meanwhile, the Lankan president is also scheduled to meet Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmogan Singh.

 

Moreover, the president is also due to place the foundation stone for the Saanchi Buddhist University as part of his itinerary.

 

On a related note, more than 200 individuals have been placed under arrest by police in Tamilnadu who engaged in protests, expressing their dissent to President Mahinda Rajapaksa's visit to the subcontinent.

According to Indian media reports two extremely vocal Tamilnadu political

parties had engaged in protests against visiting  Lankan President

Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The protesters had even gone to the length of obstructing the Kanchipuram railway station.

Moreover a group of Chennai university students had staged yet another protest

before the countries apex court today.

The group who had mounted the roof of the court complex were later subdued  

by police and were placed under arrest.

It is also reported that protests are underway in Madya Pradesh which have been

spurred by Chief Secretary of the MDMK party Waiko.
