Police ordered to notify court concerning major involved in Malaka Silva law suit

Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijerathna ordered today that Malaka Silva the son of Minister Mervyn Silva & his accomplice Rohan Wijerathna be enlarged on bail.

The Individuals were placed under remand custody for having allegedly assaulted a major.

Each suspect was released on a cash bail amounting to one hundred thousand rupees.

When the case was taken up before court today, Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijerathna inquired from the major who had been allegedly assaulted

as to what the gamut of his profession was. 

Speaking in reply the major had notified court that he was in charge of the Sri Lanka army's Colombo-South Intelligence wing & had previously engaged in active duty in the countries North & East.

Furthermore when inquired as to why he had opted to withdraw his recent statement the major had mentioned that such a statement was induced under shock subsequent to the incident.

Speaking further the defendant had noted that he was unable to identify the assailant due to his severe haemorrhage.

Considering the facts presented before him, Fort Magistrate Kanishka Wijerathna ordered the Slave Island police to carry out investigations regarding the 2 statements made by the Major and present its findings before court on the 24th of this month.

However, the remaining 5 suspects who were taken into custody with Malaka Silva and Rehan Wijerathne were remanded further until the 24th of this month.

Speaking subsequent to today’s court proceeding Minister Meryn Silva expressed following views to media.
