The government Medical Officers Association states that it will relentlessly peruse its strike action until the Mayor of the Galle Municipal Council is arrested.
According to the GMOA the Mayor of the Galle Municipal Council is said to have allegedly assaulted the Health Services officer of the municipal council.
Addressing a media briefing held in Colombo today, Media Spokesperson of the GMOA Dr. Naveen De Zoysa added that a token strike was being observed at all hospitals in the Galle District today denouncing the assault.
According to our provincial correspondents patients who had sought the services of government hospitals in the Gall district today, had been thoroughly inconvenienced owing to the strike.
Speaking during today's media briefing Chairman of the GMOA Dr. Naveen De Soysa expressed the following views concerning the alleged delays in police
Meanwhile Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana noted that police were in the process of obtaining instructions from the Attorney Generals Department in this regard.
Against this backdrop Spokesperson of the GMOA Dr. Naveen De Soysa noted that if steps were not implemented to arrest the Mayor of the Galle Urban Council
a strike would be launched throughout the Galle District.
When inquired by the Mayor of the Galle Municipal Council Methsiri De Silva
in this regard, he categorically denied having carried out any assault.
