Addressing today's Cabinet decision media briefing Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayeke noted that the salaries of university lecturers had been increased on several occasions.
Accordingly Minister Dissanayeke quantified the salary increment percentage of a senior professor at 83.6% while the same percentage of a Senior Lecturer on probation was depicted at 39.12%.
Speaking further during today's cabinet decision media briefing, the Minister of Higher Education rebuked the decision taken by university lecturers to abstain from correcting advanced level answer papers.
Meanwhile Opposition Leader Ranil wickremesinghe went onto charge that the scale of increments made public by the Minister of Higher Education in this regard was a fallacy.
Chairman of the Federation of University Teachers Allaince Dr. Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri asserted that all attempts made by Minister S.B. Dissanayeke in this regard were done with the intention of self preservation.
However, Minister S.B. Dissanayeke noted that he was still prepared converge
on an amicable solution concerning the university lecturers issue.
