The foot walk launched by the Federation of University Teachers Association which commenced its journey from Galle on the 24th of this month as well as the walk launched by the Inter University Students Federation which commenced its journey on the 25th of this month from Peradeniya converged in Colombo this evening

Both groups which converged at the Lipton Circus were joined by United National Party activists on their way to Borella.

Subsequently those who engaged in the walk were due to arrive at the Hyde park grounds in order to convene a rally.

Incidentally the IUSF which represented the walk boycotted the stage based on two causes.

The IUSF thereby opposed the UNP's representation in the rally as well as the rally’s theme.

Convenor of the IUSF Sanjeewa Bandara expressed these views regarding the

abstinence of his federation.

Deputy Chairman of the FUTA Venerable Dambara Amila Thero meanwhile expressed the following views regarding the foot walk’s theme.

Moreover heavy traffic congestion was reported in and around Town Hall owing to roads being shut for vehicular traffic in lieu of the protest.

Meanwhile Senior Lecturer at the Kelaniya University Mahendra Gunawardhana

termed demands made by university lecturers to increase the financial allocations made for the countries education by 6% a hilarious proposition.
