30 Sri Lankan national who had attempted to illegally migrate to Australia arrived in the island today following their brief detention at Christmas island.
The group which arrived in a special Australian charted flight were accompanied by security contingent of 60 Australians.
Upon their arrival the group were directed to the National Intelligence Bureau.
Their arrival to the island had been influenced by a decision to decline the Australian government's procedural requirement of having to enter a processing centre at the Nauru Island.
Meanwhile , the Sri Lankan Department of Immigration & Emigration states that
a serious situation has arisen in the country subsequent to the arrival of these illegal migrants.
According to the Department of Immigration & Emigration individuals who had trespassed on Australian soil claiming that they were Sri Lankan citizens are being repatriated to the island, a situation which is being constantly monitored according to Immigration-Emigration controller Chulananda Perera.
Meanwhile, the government of Australia issuing a release has categorically stated that individuals who are smuggled into Australia via human smugglers would not be permitted visas under any circumstance.
Furthermore,14 persons who had attempted to smuggle through to Australia via India arrived in the island this evening upon having been intercepted by Indian naval force personal off the seas of Kerala.
Those intercepted are believed to be area residents of Chillaw while the group is said to have consisted of 13 males and one woman.
