The Times of India reports that Sri Lanka has become a transit point for smugglers bringing gold to Chennai from places such as Dubai and Singapore.

In the past month, bureau of immigration officials at Chennai airport arrested 13 people, including several Sri Lankan Tamils, and seized 3.5 Kilogram's of gold.

According to the Times of India At least 30 kilogram's of gold has been recovered at the Chennai airport from smugglers so far this year.

The increase in the prices of gold in India has led to smugglers trying to bring in gold from other countries.
