No tectonic plates near Sri Lanka

Minor tremors were reported from various parts of the island during the recent past.

Such tremors were experienced in Gampola and Maduru-oya and from the Siyambalanduwa area yesterday.

We inquired from the Director of the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau Dr N.P. Wijayananda with regard to reports that a techtonic plate was forming near Sri Lanka.

However he further stated that research will be carried out in to these tremors.
