Vidyaloka College in Galle has been temporarily closed after the newly appointed principal was attacked following a tense situation this morning.
The transfer of the former principal had been put off for three months because of the protests by parents.
The police intervened and escorted him in, but as he entered the school premises a group of students pelted stones at.
The principal entered his office and assumed duties amid the obstructions by slogan-shouting students.
Meanwhile the unruly crowd caused extensive damage to the new principal’s car and the school buildings.
This compelled the principal to leave under police protection.
However a Senior Police official in the area at which investigations are carried out stated that information has been revealed that students, parents and even teachers had been a part of the heated clash.
The newly appointed Principal Bandula Jayasinghe has lodged a complaint with this regard with the Galle Police.
Police media spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana stated that further investigations will be carried out to arrest the suspects involved in the incident.
