The UNP has decided to ban participation of its people's representatives in various other political party undertakings.
A senior UNP spokesman said that accordingly its members could not participate in protest campaigns, agitations, meetings and religious programmes organised by other political parties without party approval.
The spokesman said that to participate in an activity organised by another political party, approval should be obtained from the working committee.
It is said that party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe has taken this decision in accordance with party constitution.
During the past several days MPs Karu Jayasuriya, Dayasiri Jayasekera,
Paalitha Rangeybandaara, Asoka Abeysinghe and Paalitha Thevarapperuma
had without party approval participated in several political campaigns organised by the DNA.
This decision has been taken after taking into consideration the complaints made about this to Party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe by several UNP leaders.
