An individual who had served as the Media Secretary of Senior Minister Athauda Senevirathna & was placed under arrest based on charges of defrauding individuals by offering them the promise of foreign employment, has been ordered to be placed under remand custody further until the 18th of this month.
This decision was issued when the suspect was presented before the Fort Magistrate courts today.
According to police the suspect had been placed under arrest yesterday at the senior minister office based on a complaint which had been received at the Colpitty police.
The Copitty police further added that it had received multiple complaints from several police stations regarding the suspect who has been identified as H.U. Gunarathna.
Subsequent Interrogations has revealed that the suspect had defrauded several individuals from various parts of the island.
However the total sum swindled is yet to be ascertained by authorities.
When inquired from Senior Minister Athauda Senevirathna in this regard he added that the suspect who had served as his media secretary was dismissed from his position based on a anonymous letter he had received.
