The asylum claim submitted by the chief witness of the White Flag case Senior Journalist Fedrica Jansz has been turned down by the Government of Australia.
According to the Brisbane Times Jansz who had submitted her asylum claim via the Australian High Commission in Colombo had requested for asylum based on humanitarian grounds.
Moreover according to Australian immigration officials Jansz's claim was rejected since they had deemed she did not face persecution in Sri Lanka.
According to a spokesman for the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship out of more than 42,000 applications for humanitarian visas to Australia last year, only 6700 had been accepted.
