Three persons have been admitted to the hospital following a clash which occurred between two groups of individuals in the Mirissa area in Weligama-Mathara.

The clash had reportedly erupted between officers attached to the coastguard brigade of Mathara & civilians.

Area residents charge that they had been assaulted by coast officials attached to the coastguard contingent of Mirissa.

In the ensuing attack 3 homes were also damaged.

Moreover a protest was held at the Mirissa junction this morning reproving the

attack which had been carried out on civilians last night.

Individuals engaged in the protest expressed their views to our news team in the following manner.

When inquired by the Weligama police a spokesperson noted that investigations had already commenced into the incident.

According to Media Spokesperson of the Coast Guard Brigade Lieutenant Commander Chandana Bulegoda-Arachchi three officers attached to the coast guard had also sustained injuries.
