Court proceedings in numerous regions of the country were brought to a halt today due to protests against the assault on Secretary of the Judicial Services Commission.
Our regions correspondents reported that the activities of magistrate courts and district courts had come to a complete halt this morning and although cases were being heard in the Colombo high courts, all cases were postponed.
However, no cases were heard in high courts yesterday.
As of now judges from all over the island have convened at the Colombo district courts to discuss the next steps to be taken with regards to the assault on the JSC secretary Manjula Tillakaratne.
Meanwhile, lawyers, court staff & the staff of the JSC are currently engaging in a protest in front of the Colombo magistrate's court.
Our news correspondent reported that the protest even blocked the Hulftsdorp Street which runs in front of the Colombo Magistrate's court.

The staff of the Fort Magistrate's Court also engaged in a protest in front of the court complex this morning.
