The Sri Lanka Army, which boasts of 24 regiments, including volunteer ones, celebrated its 63rd anniversary today.
The main anniversary got underway at the CR and FC grounds with several military events, where Army Commander Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya was the Chief Guest.
Upon the Commander’s inspection of the Guard Turn Out, presented in his honor, the formal inauguration of the day’s proceedings began with the Commander’s hoisting of the Army Flag and recital of the Army Song, adding sentiments of patriotism and grandeur to the occasion.
Subsequently a two - minutes silence was followed in honor of the fallen and missing War Heroes.
Speaking at the occasion Army Commander Lt. Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya added that the army's current contribution towards facilitating the countries reconciliation process had been applauded even internationally.
