The Federation of University Teachers association which had engaged in a strike action for 99 days has decided to call off its strike with effect from tomorrow.

According to the Secretary of FUTA Dr. Terrance Madhujith this decision had been drawn during the FUTA's executive committee meeting which was held this afternoon.

Expressing his views further to our news team the Secretary of FUTA went onto say that although their demands were not met by the government, the association had decided to employ a pliable attitude at the discussion table, there by temporarily calling off it's strike.

Accordingly university lecturers engaged in the strike will attend Advanced Level paper marking activities next week.

Secretary of FUTA Dr. Terrance Madhujith meanwhile expressed the following views to our news team in this regard.

However the Federation of university Teachers Association did not participate in the joint media briefing which was organised at the Ministry of economic Development this afternoon due to an unexpected protraction of its executive committee meeting which was held at the premises of the Nawala Open University.

Nevertheless as per the notification, the meeting in this regard was convened at the Ministry of economic Development at 2 p.m. this afternoon with the participation of Minister of Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa & Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayeke.

Speaking during the media briefing which commenced at the Ministry of Economic Development devoid of the participation of the FUTA, Minister Basil Rajapaksa informed those gathered that the FUTA had decided to call off its strike stance.

Minister S.B. Dissanayeke who was also present during the joint media briefing expressed the following views to the media.

Meanwhile a tense atmosphere was observed at the FUTA's Executive Committee meeting which was held at the premises of the Nawala Open University this afternoon.

Minister of Higher Education S.B. Dissanayeke subsequently commented on the atmosphere which was observed at the FUTA's executive committee meeting in the following manner.
