Party members of the United National party have been denied permission to attend a meeting which is being convened by a bikkhu organisation on the 18th of this month.
The decision in this regard was arrived at the parties working committee meeting which was held this afternoon.
The meeting which is slated to be held on the 18th of this month had been organised by the National Bikkhu Front.
An affiliate of the UNP, Chairman of the National Bikkhu Front however had notified the UNP's working committee that the NBF had not scheduled a meeting for the 18th of this month.
Subsequent revelations during today's UNP working committee meeting had revealed that the party had no affiliations to the group which had planned the proscribed meeting on the 18th of this month.
Accordingly it was stressed during today's UNP working committee meeting that any form of engagement with those who were against party policies amounted to the violation of the parties disciplinary code.
However during a media briefing which was held yesterday in Colombo,
UNP MP's Palitha Range Bandara, Ashoka Abeysinghe & Palitha Thewarapperuma confirmed that they would participate in the meeting which had been scheduled for the 18th of this month.
But in accordance with today's decision which was drawn up during the UNP's working committee meeting all UNP MP's as well as party members are prohibited from attending such meetings.
