Indian media reports speculate that a meeting between Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa & Indian Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh would take place in the near future.
According to reports the meeting is most likely to take place during the Asia Cooperation Dialogue forum which is slated to be held on the 15th of this month in Kuwait with the participation of 31 state leaders.
Meanwhile a visiting Tamil National Alliance delegation headed by its leader parliamentarian R. Sambanthan has met with Indian Premier Dr. Manmohan Singh.
According to TNA leader R. Sambanthan the Indian Premier had assured that India will not “backtrack” from its position & that Tamils in Sri Lanka should lead a life of “dignity and self respect” in a peaceful environment.
Dr. Singh had also stated that India would continue to engage with the Tamil National Alliance in its efforts to find a political solution to the decades old Tamil ethnic issue.
During separate meetings with Dr. Singh and Indian External Affairs Minister
S. M. Krishna, TNA Leader R. Sambanthan had stated that his party would consider joining the Parliamentary Select Committee on finding a political solution provided that the Government of Sri Lanka offers a firm assurance.
