With the ending of university teachers' strike, academic activities in universities island-wide are scheduled to begin today.

The Higher Education Ministry said that necessary instruction for this has been given to all university vice chancellors.

Accordingly university academic activities are being resumed today after 103 days.

Vice-chancellors told our news team that university teachers reported to many universities last Friday and discussed about the imminent academic activities.

Although university teachers reported to the universities last Friday, in many universities academic activities did not take place on that day due to the absence of students.

The FUTA had launched a strike on July 4th over several demands including six percent gross domestic product allocation for education and the increase of university teachers' salaries.

The majority of university teachers of universities island-wide had participated in the strike

As a result of this academic activities of all universities had come to a standstill.

The FUTA decided to give up the strike last Thursday after holding several rounds of discussion with the Authorities.
