There is a risk of garbage piling up within the Colombo City Limits due to a lack of a place to dispose the collected garbage.

700 metric tons of garbage that is collected from within the city limits per day are currently being disposed at a site located in the Kolonnawa - Meethotamulla region.

However with the sudden sinking of the garbage dump approximately 50 houses in the region have come under threat due to the land displacement that had occurred as a result.

Deputy Mayor of the Colombo Municipal Council Titus Perera stated that  disposing of garbage at the dump site has been limited due to this and that an alternate site will have to be found to dispose the garbage.

A special general assembly has been scheduled at the Colombo Municipal Council where several key decisions regarding this issue are to be taken.

Speaking further the Deputy Mayor stated that in future garbage will be classified and then disposed at the relevant sites.

Deputy Mayor of Colombo Titus Perera further expressed his views in the following manner.
