The UNP stated today that it will take severe action against party members who take part in the political rally on the 18th of this month named the United Bhikku Front.
UNP General Secretary MP Tissa Attanayaka made this statement while speaking at a press conference held today in Colombo.
However, UNP MP Palitha Rangebandara stated that a group of UNP members including him will take part in the rally.
UNP General Secretary MP Tissa Attanayaka and UNP MP Palitha Rangebandara expressed their respective views in the following manner.
Speaking further at the press conference UNP MP Tissa Attanayaka stated that this is an effort to break up the UNP.
He also questioned whether the General Secretary of Sarath Fonseka's party, Vijitha Herath who is also a member of the JVP is attending the rally.

Meanwhile UNP MP Karu Jayasuriya speaking at a press conference organized by him stated that he does not agree with the decision of the working committee of the UNP to not participate in the rally on the 18th of October and that he had written to party leader Ranil Wickramasinghe in this regard.
