Struggling Barack Obama and surging Mitt Romney face off today, in a make-or-break debate, vying for command of the presidential race with 3 weeks to go until Election Day.

Obama's team promised a "strong" and "passionate" performance by the president, while Romney's campaign, acknowledging the Democratic incumbent will come out swinging, predicted outright victory on November 6th.

The rivals will take questions on domestic and foreign policy from an audience of 80 undecided voters at a town hall-style forum in New York.

A new Gallup national poll released just hours before the debate began showed Romney leading Obama 50% to 46% among likely voters.
