Reports say that the UNP leadership has decided to suspend the party membership of three UNP MPs and two provincial councillors.
Accordingly the party membership of MPs Paalitha Rangey Bandaara, Paalitha Thevarapperuma, Asoka Abeysinghe and Provincial Councillors Shiraal Lakthilaka and Maithri Gunaratne will be suspended.
It is said that violating party instructions and participating in the rally the United Bhikkhu Front held at the Colombo Hyde Park grounds yesterday under Sarath Fonseka's leadership is the reason for the suspension of their membership.
Party general secretary MP Tissa Attanayake had submitted a report with regard to this to party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe last night.
This decision has been taken according to the powers vested in the opposition leader as party leader after considering the report.
