Leader of the United National Party Ranil Wickremesinghe has decided to suspend the party membership's of more than 15 local government MP's who have defied party conventions by attending yesterday's meeting which was held at the Hyde Park grounds in Colombo.

Erstwhile the Party decided to suspend the memberships of Parliamentarians Palitha Rangebandara, Palitha Thewarapperuma & Ashok Abeysinghe.

The UNP also states that the party memberships of provincial councilors Maithree Gunarathna & Shiral Lakthilleke would be subjected to suspension.

However the group of UNP MP's who in an act of defiance attended yesterday's meeting which was headed by the Leader of the Democratic National Alliance Sarath Fonseka, warned that they would file litigation against the party in the event of their memberships being suspended.

Speaking further in this regard UNP Southern Provincial Councilor Maithree Gunarathna added that steps would be taken to notify the countries diplomatic corps concerning the party's decision.
