Sri Lanka is preparing to launch a satellite into orbit marking a new era in the history of communications in Sri Lanka.

Only India and Pakistan have launched satellites into orbit from the SAARC region.

Sri Lanka's SupremeSAT has entered into an exclusive partnership agreement with China's State-owned China Satellite Communications Corporation for the design, manufacturing and launching of the satellite which will cost 320 million US dollars

Speaking to our news team chairman of SupremeSAT R. M. Manivannan stated that the satellite launch will take place on the 22nd of November from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in China and that the satellite will be operational in July of 2013.
