It has been revealed that branch unions, youth fronts or women's associations have not been set up in 60 of the electorates assigned over to organisers.
While this came to light at a meeting held with party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe at the chair at the Sirikotha party headquarters yesterday, reports say that North Central Province, Uva and Southern Province electorate organisers participated in the meeting.
Branch unions have been correctly set up according to instructions given by the party only in 10 electorates.
Thissamahaaraama represented by party deputy leader Sajith Premadasa is also among electorates where branch unions have not been set up.
The party working committee had earlier decided to give opportunity to participate in the UNP National Convention held on next December 1st according to the number of branch unions set up in each electorate.
Accordingly at the discussion held yesterday approval for participation in the convention was given to 55 representatives of organisers of electorates where branch unions have been properly set up.
Similarly while only 20 representatives of organisers of electorates in which branch unions have not been formed can join the convention, reports say that a condition was laid down for this at the discussion held yesterday.
While these electoral organisers should sell 500 party membership tickets, if this is not done, their representatives will not have the opportunity to participate in the convention this time.
