The disaster management centre said that the people of areas including the upcountry receiving heavy rains due to the current inclement weather should be on the alert about land slides.

Meanwhile the (dead) body of a two and a half year old baby girl, who had been missing as a result of a mount of soil falling on a house in Alawala in Nittambuwa, was recovered this dawn.
The mother of the baby girl concerned who had sustained injuries in the incident has currently been transferred from the Watupitigala hospital to the Colombo National Hospital.
Nuwara Eliya District Secretary D. P. G. Kumarasiri said that heavy misty condition was observed in the area.
As a result of this the District Secretary request drivers to drive cautiously.
