The Kandy High Court today sentenced seven accused over the acid attack on former Audit Superintendent Lalith Ambanwela in 2002, for 10-20 years rigorous imprisonment.
When the case was taken up before Kandy High Court Judge Prithi Padman Soorasena today the former Education director of Kandy as well as the Chief accountant of the Provincial Education Department who stood as the two chief suspects of the case were commuted 10 years rigorous imprisonment.
Moreover a fine of rupees two hundred thousand was also imposed upon the two chief suspects each, who in the event of being unable to make the required payment would be subjected to two more years of imprisonment.
The 7 accused over today's case were all being held liable over the initial charges filed by police and therefore received a 10 year prison sentence.
The court case in this regard was being heard for nearly 10 years.
