Due to the strike launched by the government doctors today the activities in majority of hospitals were hindered.
Speaking to our news team a spokesperson of the Colombo General Hospital stated that although most of the activities were hindered, the emergency services are active.
However, the Government Medical Officers Association stated that the treatment activities in the Maharagama Cancer Hospital, the maternity hospital in Castle Street, Lady Ridgeway Children's Hospital were being conducted as usual.
The strike which began at 8am this morning was launched with the intention of bringing attention to the salary issues plaguing the government doctors is scheduled to continue till 8pm tomorrow.
A discussion is currently taking place between the secretary of the treasury and the GMOA to resolve these issues.
However the media spokesperson for the GMOA Dr. Naveen De Soyza stated that the strike is still on going.
