The Petroleum Corporation says that the refinery activities of the Sapugaskanda Oil Refinery will be temporarily put on hold for about 10 days from today.
CPC Managing Director L. E. Susantha Silva told our news team that as a result of the refinery not having received sufficient amount of crude oil, refinery functions would cease from today.
The Managing Director said that plans were under way for deploying Sapugaskanda Refinery employees during this period for several maintenance activities essential for the Refinery.
Currently the import of crude oil required for the Sapugaskanda Refinery has got delayed.
While the import of Iranian Light crude oil had been on the standstill due to the sanctions the US has imposed on Iran, this variety of crude oil is more appropriate for the Sapugaskanda Refinery.
CPC trade unions demand to carry out immediate investigations into this incident.
The general secretary of the National Employees Association of the CPC, Ananda Palitha stated that investigations must be carried out since there is a clear doubt.
