Main suspect behind museum theft nabbed

Police announced that the Chief Suspect of the theft at the Colombo National Museum has been arrested.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Prishantha Jayakody stated that a group of officers of the CID had arrested the Chief suspect Lansage Priyantha in Negombo last night.

Several valuable artefacts including a sword at the National Museum were stolen on the 16th of March.

In investigations that followed parts of a sword and a ring of which gems had been removed were found from Piliyandala.

3 suspects including 2 women were arrested and were identified as residents of Gonawala in Kelaniya.

Later on the police offered a cash reward of 500 thousand Rupees for anyone who would provide credible information regarding the chief suspect Lansage Priyantha.
